Northern Voice MooseIn 2014, Northern Voice is turning ten years old!

On the occasion of such an august occasion, the Organizing Committee has decided to have a session about the future of Northern Voice. Since 2004, blogging has evolved into digital publishing and a little thing called social media has entered the global consciousness.

Led by Duncan McHugh and Allyson McGrane, this session will be a discussion to gather your feedback about how Northern Voice should move forward. We want to discuss three key topics: 1) Money, 2) Vision and 3) Programming.

Some of the questions we intend to cover include:

  • How much should the conference cost?
  • How big should the conference be? Where should the conference happen?
  • How closely should the conference work with sponsors? Are there any concerns about choosing to seek out corporate sponsors?
  • Who do you want to hear speak at Northern Voice? Should it focus on mainly local speakers or is there a desire to invite more speakers from Canada and beyond?
  • What other activities are you interested in having at the conference? More parties? More networking? Other events?

There will be a scribe in the session to capture information from the participants as well as a recording made.

Who Is Duncan McHugh?

Duncan McHugh is the Multimedia Developer at UBC’s Faculty of Land and Food Systems, where he has taught and supported digital media since 2005. He has also served as the technical instructor at the UBC Graduate School of Journalism, and is vice chair of the Board of Directors at CiTR 101.9FM, UBC’s radio station, where he has hosted a music show since 2007. He really likes baseball. This is his fourth year on the Northern Voice organizing committee, his second as president.

Who Is Allyson McGrane?

She has recently become addicted to Ingress and just reached level four - no wait, level five!
